Il Gabbiano: Roman-Inspired Cuisine with Stunning Waterfront Views

In the Age of Information, news media faces both unprecedented opportunities and significant challenges.

Located in New Haven’s historic Long Wharf waterfront district, Il Gabbiano offers more than just a meal—it delivers an experience. With a menu that changes seasonally and boasts Roman-inspired dishes, paired with breathtaking views of the harbor, the restaurant has become a beloved culinary destination.

The visionary behind Il Gabbiano is chef and owner Valentino Stakaj, a seasoned restaurateur in the New Haven area.

“I started with Adriana’s on Grand Avenue, and after that, I opened another restaurant in North Haven called La Lupa,” Stakaj shared.

When the opportunity arose to take over the property at 501 Long Wharf Drive, Stakaj couldn’t resist.

“I had a chance to reopen the space with new construction, and it turned into what you see now,” he said. “The view is beautiful, and people love it here.”

A Culinary Experience

At Il Gabbiano, freshness is paramount. The restaurant makes its bread and pasta on-site daily, ensuring every dish embodies authentic flavor and craftsmanship. The menu adapts to the seasons, offering guests the freshest ingredients and an ever-evolving dining experience.

One popular dish, the penne alla vodka, has earned high praise from regular patrons like Jeffrey and Gina Solomon.

“The penne alla vodka is probably the best I’ve ever had,” Gina said.

A Venue for Every Occasion

Il Gabbiano’s thoughtfully designed two-story space offers stunning waterfront views from multiple seating areas, making it an ideal location for events and gatherings. From intimate dinners to larger celebrations, the restaurant provides a versatile and memorable setting.

“We recently had a birthday party here,” Jeffrey Solomon noted. “Everyone loved the food and the scenery. It was easy to get to and just perfect for the occasion.”

A Team Dedicated to Excellence

For Stakaj, Il Gabbiano’s success stems from more than just its food and location—it’s about the people.

“I have wonderful people working for me, really wonderful,” Stakaj said. “And my customers are the best. I love all of them and can’t thank them enough for their support.”

Whether you’re looking for a romantic evening by the water, a casual meal with friends, or a venue for your next event, Il Gabbiano offers it all with charm, warmth, and culinary excellence.
